SENIORS: College Essay Writing Tips With Teska
5 tips for a successful college essay.

October 13, 2021
Here are 5 Teska Tips for your college essay:
1. This is not your typical essay!
We’ve all learned how to write the “five paragraph essay,” but when you apply for college, it’s a whole different story (literally). Not to worry- a college essay is more like a well-written paragraph (or two) than anything.
2. Make certain you answer what they’re asking for.
It’s all well and good to write about a meaningful experience, but if you don’t answer the college’s essay question clearly, they wont understand what’s so special about you. Read the question carefully and make sure you’ve covered all the bases before submitting your essay.
3. Meet requirements for word count and format.
Be sure to format your essay according to the college’s guidelines. If you exceed the word count, your essay may not be eligible for review. Make sure you check and double-check the requirements for each college you apply to.
4. Your essay is your chance to shine, so make it count!
Don’t repeat any information you’ve already included in your application. Your essay is supposed to be the icing on the cake; your unique story where your personality really shines through. Don’t sell yourself short!
5. Be yourself; be vulnerable; be creative.
It takes a lot of courage to share yourself in such a personal way with complete strangers, yet your genuine story is what colleges want to hear. Don’t be afraid to approach your essay creatively in your own unique way.
